Credibility

There was One shepherd boy in the village. The boy decided to have some fun at the expense of the villagers. He shouted "Help, help, the wolf is here." The villagers heard him and came to his rescue. But when they got there, they saw no wolf and the boy laughed at them. They went away. The next day, the boy played the same trick and the same thing happened.

Then one day, while the boy was taking care of his sheep. He actually saw a wolf and shouted for help. The people in the village heard him but this time nobody came to his rescue. They thought it was another trick and didn't trust him anymore. He lost his sheep to the wolf.

Moral

When you tell lies, you lose credibility.

Once you have lost credibility, even when you tell the truth, no one believes you.

A pound of Butter

There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to a baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting a pound and found that he was not. This angered him and he took the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer how he was measuring the butter he was selling. The farmer replied, "your Honor, I am primitive. I don't have a proper measure, but I do have a scale." The judge asked, ' Then how do you weigh the butter?" The farmer replied "Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, i put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker. " We get back in life what we give to others.

Spoken words can not be retrieved

A farmer slandered his neighbor. Realizing his mistake, he went to the preacher to ask for forgiveness. The preacher told him to take a bag of feathers and drop them in the center of town. The farmer did as he was told. Then the preacher asked him to go and collect the feathers and put them back in the bag. The farmer tried but could not as the feathers had all blown away. When he returned with the empty bag, the preacher said, " The same thing is true about your words. you dropped them rather easily but you cannot retrieve them. you need to be very careful in choosing your words."

HELL OR HEAVEN

A man died and god asked him if he would like to go to heaven or hell. The man asked if he could see both before deciding. God took him to hell first. There the man saw a big hall containing a long table, laden with many kinds of food. He also saw rows of people with pale, sad faces. They looked starved and there was no laughter. And he observed one more thing; Their hands were tied to four-foot forks and knives and they were trying to get the food from the center of the table to put into their mouths. But they couldn't.
Then, God took him to see heaven. There he saw a big hall with a long table, with lots of food. He noticed rows of people on both sides of the table with their hands tied to four-foot forks and knives also. But here people were laughing and were well fed and healthy-looking. the People were feeding one another across the table. The result was happiness, prosperity, enjoyment and gratification because they were not thinking of themselves alone. they were thinking win-win. The same is true of our lives. When we serve our customers, our families, our employers and employees, we automatically win.

What you give is what you get

A wise man was sitting outside his village when a traveler came up and asked, " I am looking to move from my present village - What kind of people live in this village?" The wise man asked," What kind of people live in your village? " The man said, " They are mean, cruel, rude." The wise man replied," The same kind of people live in this village too." After some time another traveler came by and asked the same question, and the wise man asked him, "What kind of people live in your village?"And the traveler replied, " The people are very kind, courteous, polite and good." The wise man said, " you will find the same kind of people here too."
We see the world not the way it is but the way we are. If our motives are good, we assume the motives of others are good too. If our intentions are bad, we assume that the intentions of others are bad.

SELF MOTIVATION

There was a young boy who came regularly to soccer practice but never made it to the starting team. While he was practicing, his father would sit at the far end of the field, waiting for him. The matches began and for four days, the boy didn't show up for practice or the quarter or semi-finals. He appeared for the final game, went to the coach and said, " Coach, you have always kept me in the reserves and never let me play in the games. But today, please let me play." The coach said "Son, I'm sorry, I can't let you. There are better players than you and besides, it is the finals; the reputation of the school is at stake and I cannot take a chance on you." The boy pleaded, " Coach, I promise I will not let you down. I beg of you, please like this before. He said, " Okay son,go play. But remember, I am going against my better judgment and the reputation of the school is as stake. Don't let me down."
The game started and the boy played like a house on fire. Every time he got the ball, he shot a goal. Needless to say,he was the star of the game. His team had a spectacular win.
When the game finished, the coach went up to him and said, " Son, how could I have been so wrong? I have never seen you play like this before. What happened? How did you play so well? The boy replied, " Coach, my father is watching me today." The coach turned around and looked at the place where the boy's father used to sit. There was no one there. he said, " Son, your father used to there when you came for practice, but i don't see anyone there today." The boy replied, " Coach, There is something I never told you. My father was blind. Just four days ago, he died. Today is the first day he is watching me from above."

SHARPEN YOUR AXE

John, a woodcutter, worked for a company for five years but never got a raise. The company hired Bala and within a year he got a raise. Then jhon resented Bala's getting a raise after only a year and went to his boss to talk about it. The boss said, " You are still cutting the same number of trees you were cutting five years ago. We are a result-oriented company and would be happy to give you a raise if your productivity goes up." Jhon went back, started hitting harder and putting in longer hours but he still wasn't able to cut more trees. He went back to his boss and told him his dilemma. The boss told jhon to go talk to Bala. " Maybe there is somthing Bala knows that you and i don't." John asked Bala how he managed to cut more trees. Bala answered, " After every tree i cut, I take a break for two minutes and sharpen my axe. When was the last time you sharpened you axe?"
When was the last time you sharpened your axe? Past glory and education don't count for much. We have to continuously sharpen the axe.
Moral
Likewise we must sharp our body and mind everyday. our bodies need good food every day, our minds need good thoughts every day. We need to feed our mind with the pure and the positive to stay on track.

Pessimist

There was a hunter who bought an amazing bird dog. This one-of-a-kind dog could walk on water. The hunter was looking forward to showing off his new acquisition to his friends. He invited a friend to go duck hunting. After some time, they shot a few ducks and the man ordered his dog to fetch the birds. All day long, whenever there were birds to be fetched, the dog ran on water to retrieve the birds. The owner was expecting his friend to comment or compliment him about this amazing dog, but never got one. As they were returning home, he asked his friend if he had noticed anything unusual about his dog. The friend replied, "Yes, in fact, I did notice something unusual. Your dog can't swim"

SHOW CONSIDERATION

A ten- year old boy went to an ice-cream shop, sat at a table, and asked the waitress, "How much is an ice-cream cone?" She said, "Seventy-five cents." The boy started counting the coins he had in his hand. Then he asked how much a small cup of ice-cream was. The waitress impatiently replied, " Sixty-Five cents." The boy said, " I will have the small ice-cream cup." The boy ate his ice-cream, paid the bill, and left. When the waitress came to pick up the empty plate, she was touched. Underneath were ten one-cent coins left as the tip. The young boy had consideration for the waitress before he ordered his ice-cream. He showed sensitivity and caring. He thought of others before himself.

Consideration, courtesy and politeness,Thoughtfulness shows a caring attitude.

Assumptions

A man comes home with a brand new car. The whole family is looking at it. When the father says I will go to a big town next morning, his eldest son asks if he could go with him. So the next morning the father and the son go in the new car, the roads are empty and the man is driving very fast. A few kilometers from their starting point, suddenly a big truck appears just in front of them. The man cannot avoid it. There is an accident and both are seriously injured and are taken to the hospital. The surgeon arrives and says "I will not operate". Why does the surgeon say this? Now there can be many assumptions made that the child is already dead or that there was no one to sign etc. But the surgeon was the mother of the child.
Moral:
Normally the image created of a surgeon is connected with a male and hence we cannot imagine the mother of the child to be there. We guess and imagine and that prevent us from having a right idea of what it is really.

Self Motivation

A Person coming to work. On Friday evening when he is about to leave, if you ask him how does he feels? you will find that he is very enthusiastic and good mood happiness. When the same person comes to work on Monday morning mood even after a hectic day, in the evening,we ask him how he feels. When he is aware that the whole week will be the same, he feels tired, drained, exhausted and knows that he has to pull himself through the week.So what was the not there on Monday evening? Nobody motivated him on Friday. The motivation was from within. There was no incentive or appreciation from anyone which may be the basis of his motivation. On the contrary, during the weekend, he may have incurred more expenses to fulfill the demand of his family, but still he was happy. The basis of his motivation was that his heart is at home. If he can bring the same heart to the workplace he will be enthusiastic, and motivated. This one applies to responsibility and commitment.

Change in Us

Once there was a storm in the ocean and many ships were taken away from their normal course in another direction. There was a battleship which was also driven in another direction by the storm. When the storm calmed down at midnight, the captain of the ship asked one of his officers, to go on the deck and see in which direction they were and set the ship accordingly. The officer was so enthusiastic that he went up, saw the direction and changed the direction of their ship. Then he started looking around.Far off on the same course, he visualised a steady light, so he came down and informed the captain. The captain asked to send a message to the other ship, to change its direction 20 degrees. The officer sent the message, and an immediate flashing message came back saying, "It is advisable for you to change20 degrees." The officer gave the message to the captain, As soon as the captain got the message; he was angry and asked what did he think of himself, advising him to change 20 degrees. So the captain of the battleship asked the officer to send a message on him name. The officer sent another message accordingly that the captain of the battleship requests you to change 20 degrees immediately. An immediate flashing message came back saying: "i am a second class seaman speaking but still it is advisable for you to change 20 degrees." The captain was furious and asked his officer to tell him that it was a battleship and it could not change its course. An immediate flashing message came back: " But I am lighthouse. How can I change?"So when the understanding of the captain changed that it was a lighthouse which could not change, the captain of the battleship then changed his mind.
Moral of the story: We always expect others to change. we can change us easily comparing to change others.

Today's Life

Once there were two people walking through a jungle when suddenly they heard the roar of a lion. One person sensing the danger, immediately removed his jungle boots and put on his running shoes. The other person asked him with great astonishment, What, do you think by wearing the running shoes are you going to run faster than the lion? The man replied, I don't think so, but at leastI can run faster than you because the lion needs only one victim and by the time he catches you I will be out of sight. So this is what is virtually happening today in the highly competitive world.

LIFE IS AN ECHO

A little boy got angry with his mother and shouted at her, " I hate you, I hate you". Because of fear of reprimand, he ran out of the house. He went up to the valley and shouted, " I hate you, i hate you", and the echo returned , " I hate you, I hate you". Having never heard an echo before , he was scared , and ran to his mother for protection. He said there was a bab boy in the valley who shouted " I hate you, I hate you " . The mother understood and she asked her son to go back and shout, " I love you, I love you " . The little boy went and shouted, " I love you, I love you" and back came the echo. The taught the little boy a lesson - that our life is like an echo: we get back what we give.

Meaning Of Life

Long ago when the Dilwara temple was being built two sculptors were cutting the stone and working on it. A wise old man was walking one day in search, of the meaning of life and of the lives of those with whom he shared this earth. Eventually he came across the two men who were working. He went up to a very tired hard-working man who was chipping away a huge stone. The old man asked him-"What are you doing my friend?" the man replied in a non-friendly way- "What does it look like! I've got to break this entire rock tillFont size evening ." The old man felt sorry that this man was so unhappy about his work, so moving on he came up to the other person doing exactly the same job as the first. But this man seemed so happy and contented - whistling away, working busily, so the old man asked him what are you doing my friend? The man looked up and smiled and replied "I am building a temple" Both men were doing the same job but the second one who clearly understood his purpose of work. So he was happy, enthusiastic and enjoying his work, while the first man who had no clear understanding about the purpose of his work was labouring in life , without enthusiasm, enjoyment and there was no job satisfaction. By the end of the day he was burnt out of energy.

Changes in our life

Once there was a fish in a fish- tank. It used to swim and enjoy its life. A small boy used to come regularly to the fish-tank and drop some food in one corner of the tank. As soon as the fish would see the food coming down, it would rush to the corner and take food and swim off. One day the boy thought tranparent glass piece and put it in between the fish and the food and went on dropping the food, seeing the food the fish came and bumped itself against the glass and could not reach the food. It did not understand why it was not able to reach the food. It tried and tried and finally gave up and stopped going into the corner and kept swimming. The boy felt pity for the fish and removed the glass piece and went on dropping the food. The fish kept swimming seeing the food but not touching it. Meanwhile, another fish seeing the food came up , took the food and move off. One day the fish died. What , do you think? killed the fish? The fish never died out of starvation. It died out of experience.

Moral:
Likewise we also working in a particular way and have developed certain patterns and we were successful before, but as time changes we are not willing to change our old styles. We put all efforts and try our lever best but cannot achieve the results. Somebody else comes, does the job in a simple way and achieves the result and moves forward. The challenge is to re-definne, re-invent and re-orient ourselves for the furture so that we can lead change creatively.
